The Kennedy boys volleyball team is preparing themselves for a great season with a packed schedule ahead. Last season, the team did exceptionally well. With every game the team has shown their dedication, teamwork and competitive spirit. The game schedule is out with some competitive matches. This schedule includes official games, league matchups, tournaments, and a special senior night at the end of the season.
The team’s first official game kicks off on February 24th against Birmingham, at Kennedy in the main gym. Kicking off the season with a much anticipated match. On the 28th, two days later Kennedy will face off against VAAS, then Vaughn on the 28th, also in Kennedy’s main gym.
The first game of march will be held on the 3rd; they will face Reseda at their school, starting at 3pm for JV and 4pm for varsity. Later in March, they will play against San Fernando, Canoga, Sylmar, Panorama, Van Nuys and ending the month with Reseda again.
The season is coming to an end in April. The first game will be against San Fernando at 3pm in their main gym. They will later play against Sylmar, Panorama, Van Nuys, and Northridge. One of the season’s most anticipated events is senior night on April 28th; Kennedy will take on Canoga in a home game. This game will not only be a crucial match but also an opportunity to celebrate the senior players for their hard work and dedication to the team. Their toughest challenge so far has been Sylmar High, against whom Kennedy lost some games at the end of last year’s spring semester.
Alexander Larios, one of the volleyball players, stated, “This year we have a good set of guys that have the strength and power to do good.” The team identifies themselves as a hardworking team that knows how to work together. Their communication is exceptional. Their communication on the court helps them with quick passes and helping each other out during high-pressure moments. The team’s main skill is defensive play, making it difficult for the opposing team.“
With a mix of experienced players and new talent, the team is focused on building strong chemistry and improving their gameplay with every match. Five new players have been added to the team, to the addition of 11 veteran players.
The team coach, Kim Rodriguez, ensures that every player knows their role and the team’s strategy. She is known for her clear, direct coaching style creating a good atmosphere for the team and the games.
With a mix of home and away games. Kennedy is ready to showcase their skills on the court. Students and parents are encouraged to attend and cheer on the team.
