John F. Kennedy High School will debut its remodeled theater with a new winter production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Rey Lopez, Kennedy’s theater teacher. The Shakespearean comedy will be performed and produced by Kennedy’s performing arts program from February 11-14th, marking it as the official opening of the renovated theater.
The theater department and performers hope to bring together students, families, and faculty for the school community to celebrate Kennedy’s accomplishments in the arts.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedic-fantasy that experiments with the unpredictability of romance through mix-ups and magical mishaps, while settling in the mood for chaos and illusion, but everything is resolved, bringing the message that “love prevails.”
In a recent interview with Co-Artistic Director, Caitlyn Julian, a senior at John F. Kennedy, she said that her co-stars are very dedicated in rehearsals and their department is working in several different categories from technical works to wardrobe and makeup.
One of our lead actors, Zahra Ahmed said, “Auditions really took me for surprise.” Zahra explains how she’s never done an audition at school before and she hadn’t imagined how fun it was executed. The actors of this performance have had daily rehearsals since the beginning of last October up until the show dates. For Zahra, taking on her first production as a Shakespeare play was a challenge, “I didn’t think I had it in me.”
Performances throughout the 11-14th of February are said to begin at 6:30pm, tickets selling for 8 dollars for students, 10 dollars for adults, and a special deal, two tickets for ten dollars.
