There are many resources available to Kennedy seniors who need support with college applications and building their senior portfolios. Virtual sessions are being offered for students to get help with their CSU and UC applications.
The sessions are being held on November 16, 23, 25, and 26, as well as December 14, 17, and 18 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Students can attend the meeting on Zoom. During these sessions students can receive assistance with college and financial aid applications. Some supports include registering both parent and student for FSA ID, guidance on writing Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) and Common App Essays and instructions on where and how to send SAT scores.
College counselor Lorin Abarr has created a local scholarship list to help seniors find financial support for college. This list is regularly updated so seniors are encouraged to check it every few weeks to see new if new
scholarships were posted. Students can access this by visiting the school website. By checking this list, seniors can find scholarships that meet their interest and needs.
If students are interested in applying to CSUN or any CSU school, an outreach peer mentor will be visiting Kennedy every Monday to provide support. The peer mentor can answer any questions about CSUn and help with completing CSU applications. To arrange a meeting, students can sign up by using this link: Meet with Mentor.
Andrea Tapia, a senior here at Kennedy, stated, “I think the resources are very helpful, especially having the opportunity to meet with a mentor to help with college applications.” She thinks all the resources are something students should definitely take advantage of while it is still available.
For students who want to learn more about financial aid, there will be a webinar held on December 5 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. They will cover topics like the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and CADAA (California Dream Act Application). During the meeting students can get answers to any questions they may have about financial aid, helping to understand how financial aid can help to finance their education.
