Students, Get the Help You Need

Tutoring resources for students.

Students in need of academic support can attend tutoring sessions offered through Tutor.com, Kennedy and Arc tutoring, and the UCLA AP Readiness Program.

These programs are free of charge and each offer a different area of expertise for student’s academic needs. Tutor.com is strictly online tutoring, Arc is offered after school in person, and the UCLA AP Readiness Program is available through Zoom.

Tutor.com is a service of The Princeton Review and is provided by LAUSD. To access the app, students can log in to Schoology and navigate to any course landing page. From there, students can select the Tutor.com app on the left-hand apps menu. It is the blue icon with a lowercase t. This app offers services available 24 hours seven days a week and can be navigated through by following the clear instructions. This service provides one-on-one tutoring in a wide variety of subject areas.

To connect with a tutor, students can select the subject or topic of their choice, attach their question(s), and allow the app to do the rest. Once matched with a tutor, students have an option of verbally speaking with the tutor (audio only) or communicating through a chat system. Both the student and the tutor will then have access to a shared whiteboard that can be edited on both ends.

JFK Senior Ashfiah Chowdhury said, “Tutor.com is helpful for me and my younger sibling. When I can’t help him he can get help himself and when my parents can’t help me Tutor.com helps me. I think it is a good resource to have, especially for math.”

As their motto states, Tutor.com offers quick and judgment-free help.

JFK offers Academic tutoring through the school and Arc program. The school tutoring program is strictly after school from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with help for various subjects offered on varying days. Each subject (including Math, English, Social Studies, and Science) is covered by a KHS teacher on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The Arc tutoring program is offered before and after school with Morning sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and afternoon sessions from Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Arc offers tutoring in English, Science, History, Math, and LOTE.

Senior Damian Pelayo stated that “[Arc Tutoring] was kind of boring and they really only help you if you ask for it, which is good. I basically did my homework there and asked them questions if I needed to. I didn’t ask for too much help in algebra 2. They were approachable and friendly.”

The schedule along with specific subjects offered is available via the JFK school website under campus news.

AP Readiness tutoring is free to all LAUSD high school students with tutoring offered in STEM (Math, Science, and Computer Science) and Humanities (English, Social Studies, Psychology, and Spanish).

This program is meant for AP or AP potential students. Students can register for a STEM and Humanities session and attend virtual sessions on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. once a month until April.

To register, students must be enrolled in an AP course, complete a media release form, and be willing and prepared to study for four hours on a Saturday virtually. Students can navigate to the UCLA AP Readiness website to register.

If students are ever in need of help or have a desire to enrich their studies, these resources are available and are ready to be accessed.
