Kennedy has taken initiative to provide academic assistance to help students not only catch up on their work but also on their missing credits. Students can take advantage of this tutoring to become better in the subject they’re struggling in. There are choices like online tutoring and in person to make it convenient for everyone.
LAUSD is also providing one-on-one tutoring online. This support is available to all LAUSD students with no cost and in multiple languages. The website is called tutor.com it has 24/7 support for all students. They provide homework support, feedback on writing, and studying support. It also has a live chat and interactive white board support. Feedback is provided on any writing assignment. Upload it and receive feedback within 12 hours. They will help you with grammar, punctuation, structure and flow, theme developments and citations.
Arc, the after school program, is offering after school tutoring. This will be available Monday through Thursday in the library. The sessions start at 3:30 to 5:00 pm. The only day that is different is Tuesday because of the early dismissal. It will be held from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. They provide help with homework, study skills, and there are computer and printing services available.
Abigail Rodriguez, a student at Kennedy, said, “I prefer online tutoring because I can access it whenever I have free time even when I’m at home.” This shows how beneficial tutoring online can be.
Ivan Aguilar, another student here, said “I prefer in person tutoring because I learn better by having someone there to explain it and I can ask questions more easily.” Being able to ask questions in person is very beneficial for learning faster and understanding the subject better.
The in-person tutoring provided by Kennedy is sponsored by the Title 1 program. This program is provided after school Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Dean Xiong, the administrator in charge of Title 1, said, “These sessions are provided by highly qualified teachers.”
When you need tutoring on history, the classes being held are government/econ, and ethnic studies in room K106 on Monday. On Wednesday you can get help for World History and US History in room B208. For Thursday there is no tutoring available for history.
For science, there is biology in C210 on Monday. There is no tutoring on Wednesday and Thursday for science. For math on Monday you can attend Algebra 1 in room 6C. On Wednesday you can attend Algebra 1 and 2 in room C115, and geometry in room C114. There will be geometry in room B205, and Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus in room EP-03. There will be one tutoring session for English in room C108 on Monday.
High Dosage Virtual tutoring is a program where ELA and math are being taught. This program focuses on helping students three times a week, for 10 weeks, for one hour. In this program a private tutor will meet with the student one-on-one. This is beneficial for development in the desired subject. Meeting with someone this often will allow the student to improve.
