During the last week of November that we are still in session, students that are a part of leadership groups at Kennedy High School are going to be participating in the school’s United Against Hate Week, in which students will be hosting tables in the quad during lunch to show their support.
Clubs who wish to participate in the week-long school events will be given the opportunity to occupy a spot and to run different activities to help gain support against hate.
The purpose of the school’s participation in “United Against Hate Week’ is to call out to students in order to reduce the amount of hate that is circulating around communities. In order to make Granada Hills a more accepting and united community and to get a clear no-hate policy out to Kennedy students and to help students who may be experiencing forms of hate, to feel seen and or heard by the school and their peers.
Angelina Huang, a sophomore at Kennedy stated, “I think that this is an important event to be hosting at our school so that we can encourage students to be inclusive with other students and to help students become more aware of the situation around us.”
United Against Hate Week is going to be run by Dorian Muro, the administrator in charge of the Dream Center, located in B211.
The Dream Center is planning a whole campaign for the week of the 18th through the 22nd and the activities are going to be led by the leadership groups in the quad. The school’s leadership will be hosting different events and music for students to interact with.
The leaderships that are participating in the event are the Dream Center, Link Crew, the Gender Sexuality Alliance, Kennedy Cares, Black Student Alliance, Asian Student Union, Latinos Unidos, and Upstanders.
Muro, the Dream Center’s administrator, stated, “I find it important to host this event because we need to let students know that Kennedy is against hate no matter what and we like to encourage unity and diversity as much as we can, which this campaign allows us to do.”
This event is being organized with the intention of reaching all groups at Kennedy High School to show support for anyone who is experiencing hate or knows someone who is experiencing hate.
